A weighted combination of all four metrics: 35% Gateway + 20% Convergence + 35% Removal Impact + 10% Articulation. The best single indicator of overall instructional leverage, standards that score high here are worth prioritizing in both curriculum sequencing and diagnostic assessment.

Counts how many standards a student transitively unlocks by mastering this one - following the full chain of buildsTowards edges. A score of 80% means this standard sits upstream of 80% of everything else in your selection.

Strength: Directly actionable, missing a high-gateway standard creates cascading gaps.
Limitation: Favors early-grade standards structurally, since they have more downstream content.

← Convergence (In-Degree)

Counts how many other standards in your selection directly feed into this one. High convergence means many prerequisite threads merge here, this standard is a synthesis point where prior learning comes together.

Strength: Identifies standards that require broad readiness, useful for readiness screening.
Limitation: High in-degree doesn't tell you which prerequisite thread is the most important.

💥 Removal Impact

Simulates what happens if a student never learns this standard. Removes the node from the knowledge graph and counts how many other standards become unreachable from root nodes. A score of 60% means 60% of the maximum possible damage.

Strength: The most direct answer to "what breaks if they skip this?" — accounts for cascading downstream effects, not just direct connections.
Limitation: Computationally heavier than other metrics. Assumes a single removal; doesn't model multiple simultaneous gaps.

A graph-theory metric (Tarjan's algorithm). A standard is an articulation point if removing it would split the knowledge graph into disconnected components. These are true structural bottlenecks, no detour exists around them.

Strength: Mathematically rigorous, these gaps genuinely cannot be routed around.
Limitation: Binary (yes/no), and may miss high-gateway standards that aren't structural cuts but are still critical.
